Understanding Masking A Gentle Introduction to Recognizing When You May Be Hiding Parts of Yourself
Understanding Masking
A Gentle Introduction to Recognizing When You May Be Hiding Parts of Yourself
Have you ever felt like you were performing, carefully managing how you speak, move, respond, or express yourself just to feel accepted or avoid being misunderstood?
Understanding Masking is a free 17-page guided mini-workbook created to help neurodivergent adults begin recognizing the ways masking may appear in their daily lives. Through compassionate education, checklists, guided reflection, and the GRACE® Model, you will explore where you mask, what your masking may be protecting you from, and how constantly hiding parts of yourself may be affecting your emotional, mental, sensory, and physical well-being.
This resource is not about forcing you to unmask before you feel ready. Masking often develops as a way to stay safe, connected, accepted, or understood. The goal is to help you notice your experiences with greater curiosity and compassion.
Inside This Free Mini Guide
You will be guided through activities that help you:
• Identify common signs of social, emotional, and sensory masking
• Explore the environments where you feel the most pressure to perform
• Recognize the emotional, mental, and physical cost of masking
• Understand what your mask may have been trying to protect
• Identify your body’s warning signs and support needs
• Complete a personal GRACE® Reflection
• Choose one small and safe next step toward greater authenticity
This mini guide is an ideal starting point for adults who are newly exploring neurodivergence, recently diagnosed, questioning whether they may be masking, or trying to better understand why everyday interactions can feel so exhausting.

Begin noticing the parts of yourself that may have been hidden, without judgment, pressure, or shame.
